How to communicate with parents based on culture difference awareness

Description: Realize parents have different perceptions because of coming from different culture difference. This awareness will help the first line. And seek the cooperation and deal with complaints.
TALK Strategy for developing oral language skills

Developing Oral Language and Vocabulary Through Lesson Warm-Ups
Presenter: Courtney Sidsworth/Amelia Yan
Description: Language and communication are interdependent. By adding simple warm-ups to a lesson, we can activate students’ background knowledge, promote interaction and support the production of language for all students. Warm-ups give students opportunities to speak in pairs or small groups using sentence frames and vocabulary banks. They not only develop language but also build confidence and engagement. A well-designed warm-up can engage students, spark their interest and encourage active participation. Join this TTT to see examples of warm-ups that have been used in second-grade content areas, but can easily be adapted to any grade level and complexity. Bring a lesson to this hands-on TTT so you can create warmers for your own lessons!

Zines! for community, fun, and formative assessment

Description: Zines are a form of DIY publishing, connecting the head, heart, and hand to share ideas and connect people across space and time. You’ll learn about the history of zines, styles and purposes. We’ll discuss how zines can be used in your classroom to build community, provide opportunities for formative assessment, and foster peer-to-peer teaching. Most importantly, zines are fun!
